UG Expression Builder

Setting up derived activity definition expressions

Expression Builder

Accessing this panel:

  • Using the Derived Activities panel, click inside the Expression cell for a derived activity definition value and click the ellipsis button on the right.

Derived activity property definitions utilize filters to apply formulae defined in the Expression column of the Derived Activities panel. An expression must be of a valid format. When entering the expression, you can select both variables and functions to include in the formula, and check the current formula for syntax validity.

The controls on this panel are similar to those found in Studio's generic Expression Builder Dialog. You can refer to this topic for more detailed information and examples of expressions supported in Studio software.

Click OK to transfer your current expression to the Derived Activities panel (Expression table cell).

Using the UG Expression Builder

This panel contains the following fields:

Expression: the currently-defined expression. You can edit this manually and/or construct it using other controls. This is the expression that is currently assessed for validity, with the results shown in the Status field below.

Statis: the status of the current Expression (see above). The expression will either be reported as valid or another message indicating there is an issue with the current syntax.

Field: to reference an existing attribute within your design data, use this drop-down list to select it, then ADD to insert it into the Expression at the current cursor position (or at then end of the text if the current position is unknown).

Operators: various expression operators here, including comparator and equality operators are found here.

Functions: you can insert standard numeric and string functions into your expression using these preformatted lists. Click ADD to add them to the current Expression.
